Consolidated Stores Corp/K•B Toys
Southeast Distribution Centers
Montgomery, AL

Consolidated Stores Corporation selected Haskell to design and build two southeast distribution centers, totaling almost 1.3 million s.f.  The 462,000 s.f. Consolidated Stores building is an addition to an existing facility and is a conventional steel structure with metal siding. The 830,000 s.f. K•B Toys building is a newly constructed tilt-up concrete structure.

This distribution center complex was built on a 174-acre site in Montgomery, Alabama. Both facilities were constructed to provide 40 feet of clear height to accommodate rack storage of product up to that level. Tilt-up concrete walls and sprinkler systems were integrated into the design of these distribution centers to reduce the risk of loss in the event of a catastrophe.

In order to begin equipment installation and racking, the owners obtained occupancy of both facilities only eight months after site construction activities commenced. Haskell utilized phased-building occupancy to expedite the owner s use of completed areas of each facility. Two construction teams were employed to accomplish this time schedule and complete the projects simultaneously, in only 11 months, on time and under budget.
