American Airlines
C.R. Smith Aviation Museum
Fort Worth, TX
The Haskell Company was selected to perform American Airlines' first design-build project: a $1.9-million addition to American Airlines C.R. Smith Aviation Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. The building provides exhibition space for display of American Airlines' historic, Douglas DC-3 aircraft, Flagship Knoxville.
The building was designed so the roof resembles an airplane wing, the plane is highly visible at night, and to provide a grand space for American Airline functions. Haskell constructed the east wall of the building with a 25-foot-high, glass-curtain wall consisting of insulated glass with high-performance thermal properties. Lighting of the interior space included fixtures placed in the floor slab and ceiling-mounted spotlights, all focused on the airplane. This design provided dramatic lighting of the space at night.
